Animism is the belief that all entities have a soul or spirit. Here in Cambodia, animism prospers alongside Buddhism and each belief system participates in creating this whole. This man is an important animist figure in the temple of Preah Ang Chek, in Siem Reap. There is something serene about his gaze. He sits amongst the monks, in the shade, by the temple's entrance and he shares his confidence in the ability of the Cambodian youth to place value in tradition and carry on believing in spirits.

The United States dropped upwards of 2.7 million tons of bombs on Cambodia, exceeding the amount it had dropped on Japan during WWII (including Hiroshima and Nagasaki) by almost a million tons. During this time, about 30 per cent of the country's population was internally displaced. On March 18, 1969, the United States began a four year long carpet-bombing campaign in the skies of Cambodia, devastating the countryside and causing socio-political upheaval that eventually led to the installation of the Pol Pot regime.... ~ Until They're Gone is a film documentary covering the devastating decades of violence and the effects it has on the Cambodian citizens to this day. Rough bombs and landmines are still being discovered and set off accidentally by young children and unknowingly adults. 🐻💕Hi friends!! 🐾 I wanted to give you an update of our new adventure! We are traveling around South East Asia and the little friends are having an incredible time! It is always great to meet new cultures, their people, gastronomy, colours, landscapes and history. We've been taking so many pictures I want to share with you!😊 I will try to post them in the stories whenever I have some spare time📸We took this one in a temple called Angkor Thom in Siem Reap, Cambodia. ❤️

Whilst visiting #angkorwat on that trip I spotted this (Steve irwin voice) beaut of a #snake on a temple wall and managed to take a picture ahead of where it was going. There were few other people around and it was a real indiana Jones type moment. Having a proper camera is totally worth it when travelling #siamreap #Cambodia #travelmemories #travel #wanderlust #southeastasia #backpacking #temples #ruins #architecture #history #nature

Mondulkiri Project// On the outskirts of the quiet town of Sen Monorom in Cambodia and a 6 hour minivan trip from Phnom Penh is a non-profit sanctuary for elephants which also supports hill tribes and forest conservation. Here we got up close to five elephants in a peaceful environment. After a trip to Siem Reap where you are aware of all the ugly elephant riding taking place it was nice to see these guys living a better life away from logging and stupid tourists riding them for fun.
