Have heard nothing but great reviews on this one. Time to crack it open.

Happy Friday, friends! I’ve settled on A Place for Us for my weekend read. Swipe to see the book jacket blurb if you want. I’ve avoided reading it because I want to be surprised as much as possible—that can be really hard to do in a world of podcasts, reviews, and social media. 📖 My reads have been heavy and emotional lately. Do you purposefully break up your emotional reads with lighter fare? Sometimes I will purposefully switch genres, especially if I’m in a good-book hangover, but I don’t know that I break up heavy reads necessarily. It’s usually all about my mood. How about you? 📖 What are YOU reading this weekend? . . . . . #bookstagram #fridayreads #weekendreading #amreading #reading #bookworms #instaread #instareads #bookcover #theunreadshelfproject2018 #unreadshelfproject2018 #fiction #literaryfiction

Woohoo! Happy Friday! My family and I are going to pick apples tomorrow. Then I’ll make a huge batch of applesauce. What are you doing?• • •So I finished this book last night. Wow! I’m still thinking about it. A creature rustled the tree branches in my yard this morning and I startled with fear. If you’ve read this book you know why!• • •Miranda joins a group of biologists on the Farallon Islands, a desolate, rocky archipelago teeming with mice and violent gulls, surrounded by massive white sharks. It’s a wildlife refuge. Only the six biologists, and now Miranda, live there. The biologists take their non-interference commitment very strongly, only observing, learning from, the animals. Miranda is only there to take photographs. But something, possibly more than one thing, goes terribly wrong.• • •I highly recommend this one if you like moody, thought-focused writing with an INCREDIBLE setting that will not leave you after you’ve finished the book! This is not a thriller, it is too cerebral and ambiguous for that! It’s a wonderfully constructed story for those very reasons! I look forward to what Abby writes next.

Some changes coming soon to my website! Look for book reviews, short stories, updates on my current novels, and more! #author #amwriting #fiction #shortstory

I love reading but I haven't read anything new in a while. Any suggestions? Or what's your favorite book?☺ #books #fantasy #mystery #horror #fiction #nonfictionbooks #manga #differentworlds

I reviewed The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang on the blog today. What did you think of this book? I think my opinion differs from most people's. 😳That's ok, though. Rin is a war orphan who is adopted by a couple who enslaves her to help them run their drug smuggling operation. She wants out, so she studies really hard and makes it into the highest military academy in the country. She gets bullied from the start because of her color and gender. While there she learns to fight and strategize, and she eventually begins learning about shamanism. She uses opioids to find the gods and call on them. Then her country is invaded and war erupts. She goes to fight, but doesn't just want to fight--she wants to end the war. I thought this book was well written and engaging. The characters were well developed, and the story line was intriguing. After that, though, it wasn't for me. I didn't like the premise, the content, or the ending. When I finished I felt yucky and sick to my stomach. I found this book to be dark and very disturbing. It has very high ratings on Goodreads, though, so I think I'm alone in my opinion. It's rated R, recommended only for adults, and I gave it (sadly) 2.5/5 stars. Do you have a favorite book to movie adaptation? Have you watched The Darkest Minds yet? I haven’t but it’s on my list of movies to watch. 🎥📚🎥📚🎥📚🎥📚🎥📚🎥📚🎥📚🎥📚🎥📚 I recently won a giveaway from @disneybooks of this lovely set of The Darkest Minds series by @alexbracken and these awesome campfire mugs. I love how the spines spell out DARK when lined up. I’ve read the first one in this series and I’m looking forward to reading the rest. Thank you all for sending me this wonderful set. • • • #bookstagram #booklover #lovetoread #bookphotography #read #booksarelife #booksofinstagram #book #yabooks #bookishfeatures #bookworm #books #bibliophile #bookaddict #bookish #booklovers #bookstagramfeature #booknerd #bookaholic #ilovereading #ilovebooks #love #bookshelf #fiction #booklove #bookishlove #bookphotography #bookish #gratitude

Do you like reading book reviews? 📚 Personally I love reading others' reviews, especially if their opinion is different from mine! It gives me an incredible opportunity to experience again the book but with new eyes! 👀 • So I'd like to start today a little hashtag for my silly and absolutely non professional reviews, that I'm posting since recently on Goodreads. Let's discuss about books! 📚 • #shortbookreview of Misery, by Stephen King ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/ 5 “I thought you were good, but you are not good. You are just a lying old dirty birdie.” • No supernatural creature, no evil entity here. Just Annie Wilkes, a paranoid violent psychopath, number one fan of Paul Sheldon. Enough said. 🔪💊💉😱 • This book is simply brilliant. As Annie, I was not able to put it down because I had to know! I finished it in less than two days, but I think I'll see Annie in every dark corner or shadow forever. Highly recommended! • Did you read it? Did you like it? I am curious! • • #stephenking #misery #shortbookreview #bookreview #review #bookrecommendation #bookstagram #bibliophile #bookstagram #reading #igreads #bookworm #booknerd #booklover #booklove #lovebooks #bookish #bookaddict #read #fiction #michelaslibrary

Thanks for this review of Eastern Shore Shorts from Brent Lewis. “Highly recommended book of short stories! In her newly released Eastern Shore Shorts, Gail Priest, author of the popular Annie Crow Knoll trilogy, offers up a charming collection of loosely connected stories populated with authentic, salt of the earth characters, who are all part of each other’s lives whether they know it or not. Local settings and Shore-centric observations, moments, and quirky turns of phrase come naturally here, never coming off gimmicky as such techniques sometimes do in the hands of lesser writers. The themes Priest explores are universal. It’s easy to empathize with those small human gestures that can have a major impact on such important parts of our lives as family, romance, aging, loss, second chances, and dessert. Though each section of Eastern Shore Shorts stands on its own, these small slice-of-life tales intertwine in the laid-back, unforced style of the Eastern Shore spirit. And on a side note, in a place as obsessed with food as Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the author was thoughtful enough to include a few story-inspired, or story-inspiring, recipes.” http://gailpriest.com/ https://www.amazon.com/Eastern-Shore-Shorts-Chestertown-Chincoteague/dp/0996805281/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1534514077&sr=8-1&keywords=gail+priest #secondchances #easternshore #shortstories #fiction #author #authorsofinstagram #chesapeake #bay @catmousepress @honeybeetradingpost @sundialbooks @browseaboutbooks @bethanybeachbooks @inkwoodnj @twigsandteacups

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.” -J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 🦊 ➡️QOTD: What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever gotten in a sub box? (This is a soap free zone ya little nasties 😂) 🍄 Do you ever have those days where there’s so much to do but so little time to do it? I’m finally starting to pack for school since I leave in a week and this year we’re living in an apartment there’s soo much more to pack. Ugh.
